Leadership Development

Our leaders are Quakers who were drawn to this program. Some have been active in parenting education, some are counselors, others are teachers. In common they all want to support parents in their spiritual journeys with their children 

Candidates apply by completing a questionnaire reporting their relevant knowledge base and experiences. Acceptance for training may be on the condition that the candidate acquire a broader knowledge base in human development or more experience leading groups.

Training includes the candidates reviewing the leader’s manual, the curriculum, participating in a weekend workshop and co-leading groups.

The basic training session is over a weekend. Candidates prepare for the weekend by reading assigned material which is provided in advance. Activities over the weekend consist of

Additional work following the weekend depends upon the background of the candidate.

Following the weekend training, candidates co-lead groups from their home base with oversight and support from the Quaker Parenting Initiative.

Members of the QPI leadership stay in touch with each other to share experiences, keep abreast in the field and ask questions.
